Aberdeen, set between Hong Kong Island (left) and Ap Lei Chau (right), is the only truly protected anchorage along the Island’s southern side. That, and its abundant hillside streams, was the origin of the fishing community. Junks under repair stand at the Ap Lei Chau boatyards. At the left, with its clock tower, is the Aberdeen Technical College. In
the centre background is the imposing Jesuit seminary, Holy Spirit. Its priests offered compassion and help to struggling fisher families.
